If you are having difficulty in French, you should first look at your study habits. Very often the difference between an A student and a B student is not ability but a difference in the strategies that are the A student uses in the course.
IN CLASS
* Come prepared to class with paper, pens, handouts and all of your materials. * Pay attention. Follow the agenda on the board. * PARTICIPATE! Listen and learn from the answers of other students. * Check your homework carefully. * The agenda for the week is updated every Sunday. If you know that you will be busy on Wednesday evening, do that night's homework ahead of time. * A study guide is provided for almost every quiz. Use these study guides to help you prepare and gauge the difficulty of the quiz and what you know and don't know about the topic. * Keep up on the homework and classwork. This will enable you to practice and understand the concepts as the class progresses. |
AT HOME * Do your work in a quiet place. * Do the assignment carefully, Don't rush through it just to be done with it. * To learn French, you must memorize. Spend fifteen minutes a night memorizing vocabulary. * You have to find the study method that works for you. Some students ** Use color coded flashcards, with or without pictures. Make sure to spell the words correctly and use articles: le, la, les. l' ** You may prefer to use vocabulary lists with the English on one side and the French on another. As you learn the words, reduce your list, so you just continue studying the words you DON'T know yet. ** Some students find writing out the words several times helps.
